Louie Mantia has made some beautiful wallpapers, with inspiration from a bunch of awesome movies.

Macchiato is having a break

As you can see, there is not very much activity here nowadays. The reason is that I’m in Hawaii, and simply don’t have time to write tech posts. I barely have time to manage my own personal blog and keep up with news and Twitter.

But things will be different in about two weeks, when I return back home again. Stay tuned!

New Twitter feature: hovercards

http://blog.twitter.com/2010/02/flying-around-with-hovercards.html →

The Twitter team now rolls out a new feature on Twitter.com. It’s called “hovercards”, and is basically popup boxes that appear when you hover over a username or an avatar. The boxes display additional info about the user, and you can quickly follow or send the person a direct message right from the box – without leaving your current view.

Hovercards will be rolled out in stages, so it’ll soon arrive in a timeline close to you. I love that Twitter doesn’t neglect its homepage, and constantly are improves the experience on Twitter.com.

iPhone icon template

Ever wanted to design a iPhone app icon in Photoshop, but you don’t wanna build the bezel and highlight from scratch? There’s a template for that. Cocoia has released a free .psd template for the icons used in iPhone OS. Just download, and you got a complete starter kit with a template for your upcoming icon.

50 vector social media icons

I don’t wanna “be like that”, and publish list of “10 CSS Techniques That You Didn’t Know” and so on. We’ve got smashing sites for that. But this icon set seems very nice, and best of all – it’s scalable. You don’t have to tear your hair because of the fact that the resolution sucks. Hell, you can even use these babies in print. Enjoy.

iPad GUI PSD

Teehan+Lax have released this iPad GUI .psd file, which sometimes could be a huge help. The duo have before released a .psd file with iPhone design elements, and now the light turns to the iPad. Nice work, I say.

Intelligentsia part two: Syphon

Syphon, Intelligentsia from Department of the 4th Dimension on Vimeo.

The Intelligentsia series show you, in a very slick way, the knowledge and technique behind coffee making. The first part was showing how to pull the perfect shot of espresso. Very informative and well designed (I love how only the ground coffee has colour). As a barista myself, I find these videos highly interesting.

I also recommend you not to watch the video here. Instead, head to the Vimeo page and activate HD and enjoy in full screen. Pure pleasure.

Who will save Flash?

Interesting and brief overview of Adobe’s situation right now. I totally agree that Flash is going away pretty soon. This is the lovely thing about the web: things happen by evolution (but much more quicker, of course). Technologies that are simple bad will fade away and disappear. People don’t wanna work with or use bad technologies.

Therefore it’s only natural that HTML5 emerges as a replacement for Flash. The ones who doesn’t recognize this are dinosaurs. And we all now what happened to them.

All Omni apps to iPad

http://blog.omnigroup.com/2010/01/29/ipad-or-bust/ →

The Omni Group are now announcing that they are going to make all their apps available for the iPad. They’ve already started working on the OmniFocus and OmniGraffle versions, but the other apps may take a little bit longer to bring to the new platform.

It’ll be really interesting to see the outcome of this.

Classics app now free

http://classicsapp.com/ →

“Classics” for iPhone is an app in which you can read, well, classic must-read books, and it’s now free “for a limited time”. Some examples are “Robinson Crusoe”, “The Metamorphosis”, “Call of the Wild”, “Huckleberry Finn”, “The Illiad”, “The Art of War” and many more. Worth to mention is that the iBooks interface in the brand new iPad is really, really similar to Classics’ design.
